Summary Description: The Marketing Content Manager is a full-time, benefit eligible position reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing. This role requires a skilled and flexible generalist who will identify, write and edit a large volume of content, and oversee production of print, digital and video projects – all within a fast-paced, deadline-driven atmosphere. The position requires excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, and the ability to interface comfortably with faculty and department chairs, alumni, students, colleagues, and staff. The successful candidate will have project management experience (digital and traditional), and good knowledge of best practice as it relates to content marketing/strategy. Through the planning and execution of a comprehensive content marketing plan that drives audiences awareness and engagement across marketing channels (including, but not limited to, search engines, Facebook, Twitter, niche blogs, etc.) this position will help grow Warner Pacific’s web traffic, social reach and generation of online mentions.  The ideal candidate will be a natural connector and an excellent communicator. The Marketing Content Manager is a problem solver with passion for growing Warner Pacific’s online community brand.
This position will engage and support the public relations functions of the University by assisting in planning and executing a comprehensive, proactive public relations strategy that advances the University’s mission, strategic plan and goals by building support for the institution and an understanding of its unique role.
The Marketing Content Manager in connection with the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing, facilitates the University’s public relations strategy, carrying out operating policies and procedures with a focus in the area of public relations, media relations, community relations, and communication programs, coordinating efforts for the greatest efficiency, impact, and strengthening of University communications.

Essential Functions:
  • Proactively writes, produces, and edits a variety of digital and traditional media that conveys Warner Pacific University’s value proposition in beneficial and relevant ways to multiple target audiences
  • Writes and/or produces all manner of content including short and longer-form stories, interviews/Qs&As, emails, e-newsletters, video scripts, PowerPoint presentations and web copy.
  • Ensures that all content produced is strategically aligned with Warner Pacific University’s strategic plan and central marketing/communication strategy; adheres to the University’s style and writing and style guidelines; and meets or exceeds ADA compliance standards.
  • Verifies facts, dates and statistics, using standard reference sources and adheres to the Associated Press Styleguide.
  • Acts as project manager for digital projects, ensuring that each conveys Warner Pacific University’s value proposition in a compelling and complementary manner.
  • Manages all aspects of production including: 1) the assembly of creative team(s), 2) scripting/development of content, 3) meeting deadlines, 4) staying within budget and University’s brand guidelines, 5) involving the supervisor or other stakeholders at key review points.
  • Manages interns, student employees, and 3rd party vendor/agencies as needed.
  • Acquires a deep understanding of the University and how to best navigate influencers within it; builds and maintains relationships with these individuals.
  • Manages media relations for the University, developing and implementing a strategic media relations campaign to ensure a positive public image for the University. Works with both traditional news media and “non-news” media, such as talk shows, advertorials and bloggers to obtain coverage for the University.
  • Monitors and manages social media channels for University mentions and community engagement.  Replies to posts raising questions or issues that need to be addressed and coordinates outbound social media postings with assigned authors.
  • Collaborate to plan external audience special events for the University, aggressively seeking opportunities to “make news” that generates coverage. Provides guidance and support to departments planning events and other public relations activities. Represents University administration at public relations strategy meetings with business and industry, education, other partners and with media outlets for shared promotional efforts. Represents University administration at public events, press conferences and meetings, and assists leaders with public appearances.
  • Interfaces with external marketing partners with which the university is contracting.
  • Develops and disseminates public relations materials, including press releases, media packets, feature stories for the University website and magazine, social media content and internal communication pieces. Researches and helps develop communications and talking points for University leaders.
  • Maintains contact with Executive Officers and the President in matters relating to news media, public statements, crisis communications and public relations activities, representing University leadership to the news media. Serves as a key member of the University Crisis Preparedness and Management team, providing communications response during emergencies.
  • Interface with multiple departments across the University, including the Marketing strategy group, Enrollment Management, Admissions, Advancement and the President’s Office.
  • Confers with department directors, committees, managers, and staff teams to provide public relations consultation. Develops related strategies and provides training on how to implement strategies.
  • Participates in planning and allocating the departmental budget, which includes: monitoring spending, approving purchases, reallocating funds, and monitoring blanket purchase orders.
  • Assists supervisor with development and implementation of special projects.
  • Establishes priorities for work assignments, monitors progress, reviews work products and ensures products are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Represents the University at state, regional and national meetings related to the area of media and public relations.
  • Be present in the office on a daily basis (unless arrangements are made with the employee’s direct supervisor.)

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (journalism, marketing, communications, public relations) or combination of education and experience.  Master’s degree, preferred.
  • Outstanding written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate equally effectively to prospective students, advocates and executives.
  • A portfolio of relevant work that demonstrates strategic thinking, an engaging style and a great command of language (flow, sentence structure, grammar and punctuation).  Please include three diverse writing samples.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, no matter what it takes, whether working independently or part of a team.
  • Experience as a content marketer, marketing copywriter, journalist, traditional marketer, communications professional, blogger, or digital marketer
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects, stay organized and get things done; project management skills are critical.
  • Experience with video production (particularly video editing), graphic design, photography; proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in the following: Google Analytics, Facebook Insights/Ads, Google AdWords, Hootsuite or other social medial dashboard, basic HTML coding ability, WordPress, bulk email software (Constant Contact) and knowledge of SEO best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, required.  Ability to also communicate effectively in Spanish, preferred;

    • Communicating effectively with all levels of management, staff and external individuals and groups, including media representatives;
    • Analyzing and interpreting data and information and making appropriate recommendations based on findings;
    •  Preparing a variety of written materials, including speeches, presentations, magazine and web articles; blog posts, news releases and media advisories.
    • Utilizing computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting activities.
  • Trustworthy. Able to hold confidential and sensitive data.
  • Experience working with diverse populations
Physical Demands - Work Environment: 
Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Local travel is required as necessary. Working hours may vary and occasional evening and weekend work is required.  Professional/business casual attire is required.
