Summary Description: This position requires assisting in the administration of the institutional athletic training program. Duties revolve around the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Management of the athletic training room would include budgeting and ordering for supplies and care of equipment. The successful applicant will provide strength and conditioning advice to Warner Pacific University students and serve as Strength and Conditioning Specialist to the student-athlete population. This is an FTE level of .83 and extends for 10 months out of the year.
Essential Functions:
- Prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate athletic injuries
- Facilitate safe and quick return of student-athletes following injuries
- Treat all student-athletes with equality and confidentiality
- Uphold medical guidelines of NAIA, Cascade Conference, and National Athletic Trainers’ Association
- Coordinate with team physician for additional treatment when needed
- Keep updated files with medical and treatment records on each student-athlete
- Adhere to University policies and procedures
- Provide a safe environment in training room
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of training room and equipment
- Maintain updated files for student-athletes
- Complete injury report for every injury occurrence
- Maintain open and effective lines of communication between the coaches, student-athletes, and the trainer
- Seek additional professional advice and treatment when needed
- Have all medical equipment needed for competition easily accessible on sideline
- Provide coverage for all assigned home contests:
- Arrange for water, cups, towels, and ice for both home and visiting teams, on the sidelines and in the locker rooms
- Provide water, cups, and towels for officials
- Clean up and return all supplies to training room after competition
- Wash towels as needed
- Open athletic training room 90 minutes before competition and greet visiting team members.
- Communicate with trainer for visiting student-athletes to ensure proper care as needed
- Communicate with opposing trainer when our teams are on the road as to the care needed for our student-athletes
- Stock medical kits for WPC teams before leaving for away contests
- Provide coverage for all assigned home practices:
- Tape, heat, ice, and stretch student-athletes as needed to prepare for practice and after practice
- Treat any injuries that may occur during practice
- Provide water and ice on sidelines as needed
- Communicate with coaches as to the availability of injured student-athletes
- Work to rehab student-athletes who are not healthy enough to practice
- Represent the University at necessary Cascade College Conference, NAIA and NATA functions
- Participate in NAIA, CCC, NATA and Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities
- Be present in the office on a daily basis unless arrangements are made with the employee’s direct supervisor
- Contributes to the support and implementation of the University Strategic Plan.
- Participates in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities.
- Adheres to University policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in sports medicine or related field if certified by NATA before 2022
- Master’s Degree in sports medicine or related field if certified by NATA after 2022
- Current certification by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA)
- Current license through the State of Oregon Licensing Board
- Current CPA and First Aid certification
- Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with coaches, students, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
- Experience working with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications:
- CSCS/CES/PES or related Certification
- Experience working in a higher education environment
Physical Demands – Work Environment:
The position entails both a typical office and sport environments. Professional attire is required.
