Summary Description: The Associate Dean of Students is a full-time, benefit eligible role reporting to the Vice President for Student Life.  This role provides strategic leadership and support to multiple areas of the Student Life division with particular emphasis on student success. This position will provide ongoing leadership of and support of high quality Welcome Weekend programming, Enroll to Major first-year and sophomore programs, collaboration with campus partners to create comprehensive calling services, and assisting the Vice President for Student Life with leadership of Student Life initiatives.   
 
Essential Functions:
  • Supervise 2-3 program areas within Student Life, such as Student Retention and Counseling Center. Provide support, coaching, and feedback, building a culture of excellent student-focused programs that serve a diverse campus community.
  • Develop first-year and sophomore programs and transfer experience. Embed best practices into these programs focused on calling, purpose, and supporting students in the time from enrollment in University to involvement in their majors.
  • Oversee Peer Mentor First Year Learning Community Program, including the selection, training, and regular support of student leaders.
  • Oversee Enroll to Major and Calling and Purpose partnerships within Student Life and with faculty and staff across campus.
  • Partner to support shared ASWPU student leadership training.
  • Oversee fall and spring Welcome Weekends and alignment with New Student Registration and Welcome Week activities.
  • Partner with Director of Learning Community Curriculum to ensure Peer Mentors are integrated into courses and plan shared Faculty/Peer Mentor training
  • Ensure ongoing support and communication with faculty in FYLC aligned courses.
  • Oversee Staff Mentor selection, curriculum, and training.
  • Serve as a Staff Mentor (supporting a group of students as an adviser and success coach).
  • Lead the campus’ Success & Retention Committee.
  • Assist the Vice President for Student Life in leadership of the division, including Student Life initiatives and staff development.
  • Oversee Career and Calling Collaborative by convening campus partners (Student Success, FYLC, and Advising, etc.), developing strategic initiatives and assessment.
  • Supervise departmental budgets.
  • Participate in and contribute to regular Student Life staff meetings and all-Student Life events each semester.
 
            General Expectations
  • Demonstrate presence and availability for student leaders and students you serve on campus.
  • Create timely, consistent, responsive, and effective communication to students, faculty, and staff concerning the activities and events in your area.
  • Practice regular collaboration with faculty, staff, and students across program areas on both the Mt. Tabor and Centre 205 campuses.
  • Be present in the office on a daily basis unless arrangements are made with the employee’s direct supervisor.
  • Contribute to the support and implementation of the University Strategic Plan.
  • Participate in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding the mission of the University and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in higher education, organizational leadership, or applicable field.
  • Experience working with, and providing services to, students from diverse backgrounds, ethnic minorities, and religious communities within a multicultural setting. 
  • Excellence in effective oral and written communication, public presentations and customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently.
  • Ability to multitask with accuracy in order to adapt and work effectively in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in a higher education or multicultural environment.
  • Tech Savvy - Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite and the willingness and ability to learn additional tech-related tools such as Dropbox, Basecamp, CRM software, social media tools (such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, and Hootsuite), Smartsheet, and the Campus’ Information System (Colleague).
  • Experience in Student Affairs role.
 
Physical Demands – Work Environment: The position is located in a typical office environment.  Professional/business casual attire is required.
