Summary Description: The Student Financial Services Billing and Collections Officer is a full-time, benefit-eligible position responsible for tasks involved in the management of the accounts for the Adult Degree Program students. These tasks include, but are not limited to, initiating and maintaining payment plans, providing excellent customer service to students, overseeing the collection of receivables, and providing support to other departments as needed. 
 
Essential Functions:
  • Provide customer service by assisting students with interpreting the statement and financial aid award and addressing choices to cover outstanding balances
  • Provide counseling to students and families regarding available resources to finance education
  • Provide options for payment and make recommendations to the student based on the student and family individual circumstances and financial capability
  • Contact former students with outstanding balances for collection
  • Process Third Party Billing and maintain correspondence with agencies that wish to assist students with account payments
  • Respond in a timely manner to student account inquiries and provide assistance as needed to resolve account issues
  • Participate in Student Financial Services meetings and programs; serve on campus committees, as requested
  • Be present in the office on a daily basis, unless arrangements are made with the employee’s direct supervisor
  • Contribute to the support and implementation of the College Strategic Plan
  • Participate in Warner Pacific College professional development opportunities
  • Adhere to College policies and procedures regarding career, academic, and ADA services

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or associated field from an accredited institution or equivalent experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience in a professional office environment interacting with customers and accounting responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain extreme confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems, and initiate and implement projects independently
  • Ability to multi-task, work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, as necessary (i.e. graduation meetings)
  • Excellent self-motivation, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff
  • Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and the Internet
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and commitment to diversity
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual – Spanish speaker preferred
  • Experience in accounts receivable and/or collections
  • Experience in financial aid or student financial services
  • Experience using the Ellucian Colleague administrative system
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience in a higher education environment
