Advanced Graduate Therapist and Student Outreach Coordinator

Summary Description: The Advanced Graduate Therapist and Student Outreach Coordinator provides counseling support and ongoing marketing and educational outreach for the University that is consistent with the development philosophy of the Student Success and Engagement Division.

 This is a part-time position with approximately 15 working hours per week.

Primary Job Duties:
  •  A primary part of this position is to develop and implement marketing and outreach education for staff and students at Warner Pacific University. Outreach is done under the direction of, and in partnership with Director of the Counseling Center.
    • This position proactively promotes the Counseling Center to the WPU community through ongoing classroom contact, trainings, and ongoing review and updating of the web presence.
    • Provides relevant training to students, staff, and faculty that focuses on prevention, mental health awareness, and mental health resourcing.
  • Advanced Graduate Therapist will provide individual, couples, and/or group counseling to students as need determines.
  • Assess needs of students coming to the counseling center, moving them into appropriate pathways of support: provide counseling services on campus, and appropriate referrals for students needing more specialized mental health services off campus; career or academic support. 
  • Provide or assist Counseling Center therapists in the provision of, coverage for potential at-risk students who may be suicidal or pose a threat of harm to others in the community.
  • Conduct crisis intervention services, consultation with relevant faculty and staff members, and follow-up support to at-risk students.
  • Provide mentoring and or training to graduate therapists at the Counseling Center.
  • Maintain existing relationships and establish new relationships within the WPU community to facilitate improved mental health outcomes for students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities: 
  • Contribute to the support and implementation of the University Strategic Plan.
  • Participate in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment and advanced standing in a master's degree program in Counseling, or MA/MS in counseling related program (counseling, MFT, Social Work, etc.)
  • Solid clinical skills in the treatment of common issues facing University students, including depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, and in the assessment of suicide risk.
  • Ability to multitask, works effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent self-motivation, written communication skills, and the ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and ability to conduct effective presentations for students and focused trainings for graduate therapists.
  • Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) software system.
  • Ability to solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently efficiently and effectively.
  • Experience with clinical documentation, FERPA, DEI best practices, Title IX and/or HIPPA
  • Proficiency in working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in behavioral health field (counseling, social work, MFT, etc.)  
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals including students from first generation population, student athletes, adult learners, and urban environments.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish
Physical Demands – Work Environment: The position is in a typical office environment. Professional/business casual attire is required.
